Attika is geographically one of the most representative areas of what Mediterranean is in our minds. That is, mild climate, fertile land where grapes, olives, and a variety of fruit and vegetables grow since ancient times, and numerous beaches to choose from east and west.
Today we will focus on one of the most popular coastal areas of east Attika, Artemida or Loutsa as it is known to most locals. It is also one of the easiest areas to reach if you are in Athens, which makes it quite popular during weekends at summertime.
First you need to reach Nomismatokopio metro stop using the blue line. Walking up to the road level following the signs to the bus terminal. Regular bus No. 305 is the one to ride. Remember you can use the same bus ticket for 90 mins, which is usually enough time to get to Artemida from Athens.
For times and details about the bus route check here
Take a seat in the bus and enjoy the ride. Typically the ride may take 30 to 45 mins.
When the bus turns left and the sea is on your right side you are almost there. The bus will go through an area with shops, the market of Artemida, and then the long beach will appear. You can stop anywhere along this area to enjoy a sunny day by the beach. The main beach is quite long and that makes it perfect to visit at any season. It is a popular destination even in fall and winter just for a walk. During summer there are several shops that set seats and umbrellas by the sea; however you can bring your own to set it at any open space.
I highly recommend you stay and have a meal in this area. Between spring and fall most restaurants are open and there is a good variety to choose from. Thus, it will be easy to find something that pleases your appetite.
As I said … the beach is only a bus ticket away in Athens. Enjoy it!
