The neighborhood is well known to be very quite as it is a fully residential area. It is the area almost every single Greek PM and numerous ministers prefer to live in due to the small proximity to the Greek Parliament, Lykabetous hill, and the quite environment despite its central location.
Surprisingly, in a short distance there is quite a bit of action at night. Here are a few of the dinning and drink options in walking distance from Aspa in Athens.
- 48 Urban Garden, located in an old renovated factory it is a landmark of the neighborhood for over 25 years. Beyond a restaurant/bar it is also a gallery with periodic exhibitions. We really like the cocktails and the small yard at the back side of the building. Brunch is also excellent. More here.
- Balthazar, a few meters further down the same street with 48 Urban Garden is a 1897 neoclassic building with garden that hosts a well-established bar/restaurant. We recommend making a reservation.
- Mavili square 15 mins walking distance from Aspa in Athens offers a variety of choices. The square, with the thick vegetation and the fountain, is an oasis during the hot months of summer. Loras’ bar is one of the oldest bars in the city whereas Flower Pizza is known for its delicious pizzas. Mind the mosquitoes that can be very aggressive during summer and enjoy a relaxing evening under the shade in Mavili square.
- Summer movie theater – Cine Panathinea, four mins walking from Aspa in Athens. One of the best night experiences in Greece is the summer movie theater. There are several in Athens and we are fortunate to have one just a couple of minutes away.
- Feel hungry before or after the movie? 200 meters away you can find one of the oldest tavernas of the area, Penaleon. If you do not mind you can walk even a few blocks further to Emmanouil Benaki street in Exarchia, a buzzy street full of restaurants.
